Porsche (China) is recalling 15,906 Taycan electric vehicles due to the risk of fire in battery modules

Porsche (China) Automotive Sales Co., Ltd. recently filed a recall plan with the State Administration for Market Regulation in accordance with the requirements of the Regulations on the Administration of Recall of Defective Automobile Products and the Measures for the Implementation of the Regulations on the Administration of Recall of Defective Automobile Products, involving a total of 15,906 electric vehicles of the Taycan series produced between January 7, 2020 and December 15, 2023.

The reason for the recall is that a short circuit may occur inside the high-voltage power battery module of some vehicles, which may lead to thermal runaway of the battery module in extreme cases, posing a risk of fire.

In order to solve this problem, Porsche (China) Automotive Sales Co., Ltd. will commission authorized dealers to implement a temporary recall from November 15, 2024 to test the high-voltage power batteries of vehicles within the scope of the recall. If there is an abnormality, the battery module will be replaced free of charge. As of Quarter 1, 2025, a final recall will be implemented to install on-board diagnostic software for vehicles within the scope of the recall. The software will detect potential problems with the battery module and warn the driver before the risk occurs, while replacing the abnormal battery module. Until the recall is implemented, users are advised to limit the charge to 80%.

This recall is an expanded recall of the "Porsche (China) Automotive Sales Co., Ltd. recalls some imported Taycan series electric vehicles" issued on May 11, 2024.
