Poland will purchase the "Eye of the World" airborne early warning aircraft from Sweden to enhance the strength of the air force.
The "Eye of the World" early warning radar has a maximum detection range of about 550 kilometers and has strong airborne early warning aircraft and command and control capabilities.
According to the US "Defense News" website reported on May 24th, the Polish Defense Minister is negotiating with Sweden on the purchase of AEW&C by the Polish Air Force.
"Eye of the World" is an airborne early warning and command and control system developed by Saab, a Swedish defense and security company. The system consists of Erieye extended-range radar of Saab and sensors of the mission system. It can be installed on the "Global" 6000/6500 long-range business jet produced by Bombardier. The maximum detection distance of the radar is about 550 kilometers, the maximum number of detected targets exceeds 300, and the mission life is about 11 hours.
According to reports, Poland plans to spend 689 million US dollars to purchase two "Eye of the World" early warning aircraft, and reserve the right to purchase the other two. The two aircraft will be delivered to Poland before 2027.
At present, the main equipment of the Polish Air Force includes 48 F-16s, 28 MiG -29 fighters (some of which have been handed over to Ukraine), 18 Su -22 fighter-bombers and trainers. In recent years, in order to enhance the air force’s combat capability, Poland has accelerated the pace of purchasing new fighters. In 2020, Poland spent $4.8 billion to purchase 32 F-35A stealth fighters.
Last September, Poland signed an arms purchase agreement with South Korea, and Poland will spend 3 billion US dollars to buy 48 South Korean F/A-50 light fighters. According to the agreement, the first batch of 12 aircraft will be delivered in the second half of 2023, and the second batch of 36 aircraft will be delivered between 2025 and 2028. In August last year, Poland and South Korea signed another military purchase contract. Poland will buy a batch of K-2 Panther main battle tanks and K-9 self-propelled artillery from South Korea, with a contract value of 5.76 billion US dollars. In addition, Poland also plans to purchase 96 Boeing AH-64E Apache helicopter gunships with a total value of 12.5 billion US dollars.
